6.4 Signalling Enzyme Cascade
The model is borrowed from Mendes, P. [7]. Figure 6-17 depicts a branched metabolic pathway controlled by a signal metabolite through an enzyme cascade. The model can be subdivided in two parts: metabolism and signalling.

For this simple simulation, the concentration of the signal has been set to 1, double the value of both the ka for reaction 1 and ki for reaction 2. The time course simulation of the first 10 seconds was simulated with 100 sampling points and was followed interactively in the time course page, as depicted in Figure 6-18.

According to it, one can see that kinase1 quickly becomes 99.9% phosphorylated, kinase2 takes a little while longer to become 90.8% phosphorylated and enzyme-a is slower increasing its concentration but after 2.3 second it has not yet saturated (and is already 97.2% of the total).
